Vic: Hundreds of motorcylists to converge on Geelong

MELBOURNE, Aug 2 AAP - Hundreds of motorcyclists will ride from Melbourne to Geelongtoday to draw attention to road safety issues for riders.

The motorcyclists are angry that a Geelong driver who struck and killed a motorcyclistafter failing to give way was only fined $500 last week.

Motorcycle Riders Association president Alex Money said up to 500 riders were expectedto take part.

"A lot of car drivers say to me, `the motorbike just appeared out of nowhere' - that'snot true," Mr Money said.

"Drivers are just not concentrating, they're on mobile phones, lighting cigarettes, talking to passengers and not looking out for motorcyclists."

The ride will begin at 9am (AEST) from the Shell Service Station at Todd Road at theWestgate Freeway and proceed to the Geelong Court House.
