SA: Housing staff stop work in pay dispute
ADELAIDE, April 14 AAP - Public service staff at Adelaide's Housing Trust and Aboriginal
Housing Authority walked off the job today in another snap one-day strike in support of
a wage rise.
More than 50 staff stopped work from 9.30am (CST) today in protest against the South
Australian government's refusal to increase a pay offer.
The Public Service Association (PSA) is campaigning for a 12 per cent pay rise over
two years but has indicated to the government that it is prepared to accept 10 per cent.
However, the government has offered eight per cent for some lower-paid workers and
seven per cent for others.
PSA general secretary Jan McMahon today vowed to escalate the lightning strikes and
said the government had underestimated the resolve of workers.
Last week, staff from the Lands Titles Office and sheriff's officers in Adelaide courts
undertook similar stoppages, while about 15,000 public servants across the state staged
a 24-hour strike last month.
